History

Dale Peterson and Ron Warshall formed the Northwood Turners club in Jan. 2005.

Our first meeting was an organizational meeting to see if there were enough people interested in turning. It was held on Jan. 20, 2005 at Gallery 51 in Manitowish Waters, Wis.

About 25 people showed up and it was decided to go ahead and form a club. At our next meeting on Feb.17th we formally started our club. It was named Northwood Turners and officers were elected for 2 year terms.

Don Bratcher was elected our 1st President, Ron Warshall was elected Vice President, George VanBeynen elected Treasurer, Tom Hutton elected Librarian, and Dale Peterson was elected Secretary.

All officers must be members of the AAW. Dues were set at $20/year. We sent in our by-laws to the American Association of Woodturners and became a chapter member of the AAW on April 21, 2005.

In Jan. of 2006 we moved our meetings to the Lakeland High School in Minocqua, WI. We applied for a grant in March of 06 and received $675 from the AAW for the purchase of a Jet mini-lathe and some videos for our library.

In July of 06 we had a club cookout at Dale Peterson's house where we fell 4 dead oak trees and then had brats and burgers on the grill. About 25 people showed up to enjoy a beautiful day.

In Nov. of 06 we moved out meeting place to Ed Mejerie's shop in Minocqua.

All our meeting are held on the 3rd Wed. of each month at Ed's shop except for our July cookout which is held on a Sat.

Elections were held in Jan. 2007: President: Dale Peterson; Vice President: Ron Warshall; Treasurer: George VanBeynen; Secretary: Tim Muench.

The club has a real nice collection of Tapes, DVDs, Books, and Magazines that the members can check out. The library is held at Tim's shop.
